Red Onion Story Time- Tales of the Waitress

The longer I work at the Red Onion I find myself getting lost in our regulars’ stories of them growing up, family life, and there day to day tales they share with us. A couple of days ago I was talking to one of our regulars, and he told me a story in which I was shocked to here, and for a moment did not believe until I saw the pictures.

Josh, my husband is about 6’5” and built like a machine, came in to eat an order of his favorite chicken wings. After Josh left Ed (a Red Onion regular) came up to me with a smirk on his face. I figured he would comment on our height difference ( I am only 5’2”) when he said “ I bet my brother could beat your husband in an am wrestling match!” I look at Ed and laughingly said “Are you kidding by husband is hands down the strongest person I have ever met!” Ed proceeded to tell me a story in which might be the story of the manliest thing I have ever heard.

Ed told me a story that took place in the mid 70’s. “My brother and I are the same height, but he is much stronger than me.” He began telling me as I looked at him standing about six feet, five inches. “My brother was a wrestling champion, he was strong as ox! One day there was a store opening in town, and back 70’s they did weird things to attract a crowd. Now this store had got a bear, a real seven foot tall bear that the people could actually go and wrestle! My brother, being the wrestling champ, decided to go to the new store and wrestle this bear, and to everyone’s surprise my brother beat this bear! He actual flip this bear over hip and won!”

It is stories like this that make laugh and always put me in a good mood while working. I can honestly say the Red Onion Café is more like story time then a job for me. I love when people give me a glimpse into there lives. It is these stories that make the Red Onion a fun place to be, and always leaves you wanting more!

  1. I'm from E.E. Ward Moving & Storage, based out of Columbus Ohio. The Red Onion sounds amazing! Next time we have a distance move around the Monroe/Dayton area, I'll recommend our moving team to check out the place for lunch!

Great blog! Thanks for sharing your stories!
