History of the Red Onion




The Red Onion Cafe has only been open for four years in counting however, the name "Red Onion" comes from the history of this little white building that is now a landmark in Monroe. What was once a stop in the pony express the workers at this old landmark would hang red onions outside of the building so the travelers of the Pony Express would know food was being served at the location. Do to the distinct smell of the onions the scent would travel far distances attracting those with hungry stomachs.


One of the best features of the Red Onion Cafe offers is the pride they take in being a part of the History of Monroe Ohio. All the tables and much of the wall art displays old newspapers clippings, photos, and much more. Not only to you get indulge in a wide variety of original food dishes you get a chance learn and be a part of the history of the Red Onion Cafe.
